Joy Deja King "Boss Bitch" Mixtape

I was skeptical when I first heard about Joy Deja King making the move to music. She's an amazing writer of novels but music is a totally different ballgame. She's expanding on her brand with the title "Boss Bitch" and this mixtape keeps with that theme. Joy is a better author than she is a rapper in my opinion, but she gets an 'A' for effort. Take a listen below and tell me what you think.

*Covers eyes* I've Never Read any of 'The Prada Plan' Books...

The Prada Plan 3 available February 2013

Ashley Antoinette is probably my favorite author right now. I am just now getting a chance to say this because I've read a whopping two books by her. I know you just screwed your face up and said something like "She supposed to be a urban fiction author and she ain't read but two books by her?!" And to that I hang my head in shame and say yes. When hot authors like Ashley & JaQuavis, K'wan, and KiKi Swinson hit the streets I was in the streets myself. The last thing on my mind was reading books.
With the announcement of The Prada Plan 3 being released it made me realize that I haven't read the first two. I have asked around and learned very quickly that this is a series that I just have to get my hands on.

Have you read any of the Prada series?
What do you think of Ashley Antoinette's body of work as a whole?

Ashley Antoinette's "Guilty Gucci" is a New York Times Bestseller

Congratulations to Ashley on being number 26 on the New York Times Bestellers List for the week ending February 4, 2012.
The female half of the author duo Ashley & Ja'Quavis is no stranger to the list. This makes their second appearance on the list. Their book The Cartel 3 debuted on the list at number 33 in November of 2009.
It makes me smile to see that the urban fiction genre is becoming more mainstream and is being recognized in such a big way!

"Room 111" by Michael McGrew Book Trailer

I am obsessed with reading about secret societies. When I saw that Michael McGrew was combining urban lit and the controversial illuminati I was immediately intrigued. "Room 111" is about a R&B singer who becomes a famous singer/songwriter. Once success is his, he realizes that there is a much darker side to the entertainment industry.

CMC Signs Street Lit Heavy Weight, K'wan

Cash Money Content is taking the Street Lit industry by storm. They are the hottest publishing company out right now. The have a roster that includes Wahida Clark, husband and wife duo Ashley & Jaquavis, and now K'wan.

The "Welfare Wifeys" writer is fresh out of a contract with SMP. He broke the news of his new venture with CMC at this year's African American Literary Awards during his acceptance speech for the Street Fiction Writer of the Year award.

K'wan said in part:

It first came to my attention like a year or two ago when they were first putting CMC together. At the time I wasn’t sure if it’d be a good fit for me so I didn’t really follow up on it. I wanted to see how serious they were going to be about pushing their books and I was surprised to find they were and it wasn’t a gimmick. This past May again at the Cash Money Content launch party in New York City I said something that got someone’s attention. I must’ve made an impression because they joined in with the other publishers when they were trying to recruit me. When it was all said and done Cash Money laid the best offer on the table, financially and in terms of letting an author be as big as he/she wants to be.
Congrats to K'wan. This deal will blow him into the stratosphere! To read the entire interview on K'wan's plans CLICK HERE

Cash Money Records launches publishing company

The street lit world and the hip hop world prove to be one in the same once again! Brian "Baby" and Ronald "Slim" Williams, founders of Cash Money Records, are growing their rap empire with urban lit books.
The new imprint, Cash Money Content, released it's first book this month. Raw Law: An Urban Guide to Criminal Justice by attorney Muhammed Ibn Bashir will be followed by two classics. Cash Money has acquired the rights to Iceburg Slim's Pimp and Wahida Clark's Justify My Thug. Slim and Baby are coming out strong with these two.
The label that brought you Lil' Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj plan to make stars out of authors by cross promoting the books with their music artists' ventures. Many people report hearing the artists' shouting out Cash Money authors on stage at concerts. Nicki Minaj announced that author duo
Ashley and Jaquavis are signed to the imprint and will be releasing their first book with the company soon. Lil' Wayne was shouting the title of their book Murderville on stage at a recent concert in Vegas. Very smart because the same audience that buys rap music buys urban and street lit books.
Pimp by Iceburg Slim will be released in May of this year. Check out the Cash Money Content website for more details.

Behind Those Books - Documentary on Urban Lit

As an urban lit author and true documentary fanatic I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this trailer that combined the two!
Urban Book Source, one of the leaders in bringing urban lit to the forefront, have put together a documentary giving an in-depth look on the growing urban lit genre of books.
Some say it's good for the Black community. Some say it's trash.
What do you think?
